Kris Massey is a freelance photographer from Manchester. He has a huge passion for photography and still enjoys using film cameras along side digital. He also works as a graphic designer and finds photography as his main hobby.
Massey has been an influence as much of his photography is him observing his surroundings while going about his day to day life. I find this to be a interesting aspect of the idea of journey as a person goes on multiple journeys in their lives. A walk to work is a simple example, Massey's style of photographing surroundings is one way in which that simple journey can be documented and made more interesting.
This first image is an example of Massey's observational photography. The image appears to be of a empty tube station, to be able to achieve this timing would have been key here to be able to avoid so many people. Taking this image during rush hour would have lead to something completely different with there being many people around rushing to get to where they need to be. The use of tone in this image adds depth, extending angles and making it appear longer than it might be.
This image is a natural landscape. The colours of the sky is interesting in this image the grey tones darken the over look of the photo, adding shadows to the grass also. This suggests that the weather has effected the image and the way it turned out. Composition is also something to be considerate of here, the photographer has used rule of 3 and put the subject in one third of the shot.
Both of these images are examples of Massey's London street based photography. In both his was able to capture both of them with empty streets, if the image had been taken when the streets were full the images would have been different. The use of tone in this image adds depth giving you a sense of journey as the street goes off into the distance.

The use of colour in this image emphasises more on the nature in the photograph. The use of shadows has helped to see the different shades of green in the grass. It also allows a contrast in the colours of the buildings, with some standing out more than others.
In summary, Massey is an influence to me, he has given me ideas for London based photography in which I could be able to capture street photography as well as look nature as apart of a journey. His style of photography is simple and allows for natural looking images.
