Research log - The Journey:
Photographer 1 - http://www.iesphotography.co.uk/blog/
When looking at this photographer, there is not a information section one their website therefore I cannot write a biography for them.
This photographer captures a number of different topics within, he includes subjects such as travel as well as maternity and newborns. I think that this idea of photography covers the same topic that I am focusing on as may journeys can be found in London as maternity to newborn is the journey of life. Something i enjoy about his London photography is the use of exposure and shutter speed that emphasises on the light in the photos.
Photographer 2 - Ansel Adams - http://www.anseladams.com
Adams is a well known landscape photographer. In many of his images his work he is able to capture beautiful settings in which he is able to focus on the nature of the world. His use of depth in his photography creates an emphasis on these natural elements. Through this way of photography he is able to show elements of journey through natural paths and elements that have ended up how they have over time. Adams' use of tone in many of his images helps to add a sense of depth to his work making it even more enticing.
Photographer 3 - Mark Hamblin:
Mark Hamblin is a British wildlife and nature photographer. For his work he has been able to travel the world capture many different landscapes. I think that his work could become a influence for me in my work as i think that nature is a strong subject with journey as you can look at the nature around people on their journeys or the journeys of the nature its self. The composition of the image below is interesting as you are looking at the sunsetting through a tree. I find this a interesting way at looking at this landscape by having more to focus on rather than just the sun. I also thin that the shadows in the image are also interesting as they make the image look dark making the light from the sun stand out.
Photographer 4 - Gavin Gough:
This is an example of Gavin Gough's photography, in this image you can see a man of a different ethnicity. Immediately it can be inferred from this image that this is a man with a different journey to the audience viewing his photography. The blurring of the background helps to highlight the man in the picture to emphasise that its his journey the photographer was trying to capture. This is an example of how portraiture is a way of capturing journey photography and how without words an emption can tell someones journey.
Photographer 5 - Tom Hanslien:
Tom Hanslien is a Norwegian photographer now based in London. Hi work ranges from travel, to portrait photography, with travel being something he throughly enjoys, sparking his inspiration. The image below is an example of his work, the most obvious thing to the eye is the American flag this immediately reveals his location allowing for people to consider locations in America. The dried out grass area in the image suggests heat in the image along with the light in the top left corner suggesting that light is around. This is another example of how journey photography can differ and how including the location can b interesting.
Photographer 6 - Kris Massey:
Kriss Massey is a freelance photographer from Manchester. He works as a graphic designer but finds that he as a huge passion for photography. Massey still enjoys using film cameras over digital but ranges between both styles of photography. This image is an example of his work taken from a visit to London. Photographer 7 - William Eggleston:
Eggleston is an American born travel photographer who has become widely know for his photography and use of colour within his images. This is an example of his work. By looking at the quality of the image and the style of the cars within the image can help to date the photograph as you can see how much both cameras and cars have advanced since then. This is one type of journey that can be inferred here as you can look at the journey of how these things have changed, another is the person journeys that the people are going on. Nobody knows where the people are all going on but they is what helps to make the image interesting.
Photographer 8 - Vivian Maier:
Maier was a American street photographer capturing life in the 1950's. Here photography is a stylish and effective way of showing what life was like in 1950's America. Her photography is able to show us what it was like in the 50's and how the people were living and feeling. Commonly she adds some form or portraiture to her work to add a sense of emotion to the images giving them deeper meanings.
Photographer 9 - Royna Galka:
Galka is a Urban London based street photographer, she says the she aims for simplicity allowing for the image to capture the mood and tell the story. Photographer 14 - Peter Barns:
Peter Barns is a landscape photographer who is able to capture the beauty of nature in his images. I find his work to be really interesting as it uses colour to show contracts in grass and in the sky. The use of colour in the image below helps to highlight the break in the path way suggesting someone has been there.
Photographer 15 - John Scott:
John Scott is an travel photographer who capture culture and everyday life wherever he travels. Not only does his work capture how people live but in some cases is able to add an emotional view to his work where he includes people and some facial expressions. Figuet is a French landscape and design photographer who has been featured in many magazines. Below is an example of one of his landscapes, this is an interesting image as you can see many cars all driving down a busy motorway all going to different places.
